We are all living in the same country — but we are not all living the same life in our great country, The famous melting pot of the amazing United States of America.
I live in Florida. In all reality there is one road that divides the “good side of US 19” and the “not so good side of US 19”. Despite having the infamous claim to the most dangerous highway in the country, Pasco County’s US 19 offers the gorgeous Gulf of Mexico and million dollar homes on its west side and many businesses and more modest homes on the east. Two vastly different worlds are on either side of the highway.
This is true of many cities in the United States. On one side of a road, a bridge, a highway there is a good side, and a not-as good side. Often the absolute bad side appears — and based on the surroundings, it is apparent that you are “no longer in Kansas” as Dorothy had said. All over this great country the atmosphere shows the unimaginable differences between the haves and the have nots. The amazing thing about this difference is that you can move from the have nots to the haves. Why? Because this is America.
Yes, it is not as easy as some make it out to be. We’ve all heard the typical “Rags to Riches” stories in memoirs and movies. If only. But, because this is America, the Land of Opportunity, anyone can succeed. The problem is, many don’t know how.
One important way to get to the other side of the highway is to educated yourself. In a world of YouTube, Tick Tock and the global information of the internet, not to mention AI assistance like ChatGPT, the opportunities afforded to people in our country are endless. It just takes education, tenacity and a dream. Anyone can move out of the have nots. You just have to WANT to.
Whether it be through a college education, trade school or starting one’s own business, the options are endless in moving up the ladder of success. There is money to be found to help with all of these. You have to research and find it.

Don’t let your history tie you down. Don’t let your voice (or others) tell you that you can’t. Don’t say you don’t know how — Find a way.
Anyone can get to the west side of US 19. You just have to want it, believe it and go for it. After all, this is America, Land of the Free.
